Use condoms to prevent unintended pregnancies-DKT Ghana to married couples

Stephen Donyuo, the Territory Manager for Upper West and Savanna Regions at DKT Ghana, has emphasized the importance of safe family planning.

He has encouraged married couples to consider using condoms as a means of preventing unintended pregnancies and taking charge of their reproductive health.

During an interview with Info Radio, Mr. Donyuo clarified that using condoms is not limited to unmarried individuals.

“Most at times people think that having to use condom means that it is only boyfriend and girlfriend stuffs who are supposed to use condoms but generally anybody at all can use condoms. Married men can use condoms, married women because there are times you don’t want to become pregnant and you don’t want to use any other form of contraception, you can go in for a condom which will prevent an unwanted pregnancy.”

“People think that contraception is about not giving birth, for us at DKT, it’s about spacing, it’s about giving the woman some level of empowerment. It’s also empowering the family economically and also more stable to be able to take care of their children,” he added.

Mr. Donyuo stated that cultural differences present a challenge for DKT Ghana in promoting condom use. Some individuals view promoting condom use as the promotion of immoral sexual activities.

He said despite these challenges, DKT has established clubs in various tertiary institutions across the country to promote the use of condoms and contraceptives.
