The Upper West Regional Chairman of the Pre-Tertiary Education Teachers’ Association of Ghana (PRETAG), Alhassan Abdallah Salifu, has called for greater recognition of teachers and action to address concerns about their welfare and working conditions.

Speaking as Ghana marked World Teachers’ Day on October 5, Mr Salifu congratulated the National Best Teacher, a PRETAG member, and commended teachers nationwide for their contribution to education and national development.

He said the annual observance was an opportunity to recognise teachers’ role in shaping individuals, communities and the country’s future, while drawing attention to challenges facing the profession.

Mr Salifu said addressing teachers’ concerns was essential to improving their welfare and motivation. He also urged teachers to strengthen their digital skills to keep pace with technological changes in education.

Continuous professional development, he added, was vital to helping teachers remain effective in the classroom and respond to learners’ changing needs.
