Members of Info Radio's Children’s World radio program in the Upper West Region of Ghana plan to embark on a massive clean-up exercise on Saturday.

The children's led clean-up exercise is scheduled to take place at Wa Kpaguri, a community in Wa which is engulfed with plastic waste.

The kids' led clean-up exercise is part of activities lined up by Upper West Kids under the Action for Clean Communities (A4CC) project by and for kids in the Upper West Region.

The project, which is implemented by Info Radio in collaboration with THEIA International, a German-based NGO, is part of the Info Radio Children’s World radio program.

The Children’s World Radio program is a weekly radio and field-based program designed by Info Radio with and for children in the Upper West Region of Ghana. The program has the objective of giving voices to children aged 10–17 years on how they see their communities and what they want their communities to be now and in the future.

Using carefully selected topics such as reproductive health education, community change and development, climate change awareness and environmental education, volunteerism, sports and entertainment, quizzes and debates, the program engages children to share their views and observations on various topics and subjects affecting their personal development and that of their communities freely.

The program, since its inception, has empowered children in the Upper West Region to freely speak their minds about themselves, their communities, and issues that affect their growth and development.

On February 12th, 2022, children in the Upper West Region met at the Upper West Regional Library to debate and discuss how waste has engulfed their communities with its associated effects on the health of residents. Hence, they took action to clean some parts of the community that have been engulfed by plastic waste.

Hundreds of kids from the Upper West Region have expressed a commitment to participate in the February 19, 2022 clean-up exercise as part of their contribution towards ensuring clean and healthy communities.

The children-led A4CC project is implemented by Info Radio in the Upper West Region of Ghana in collaboration with THEIA International, a German-based NGO, and is financially supported by the State Chancellery of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and engagement global.
