Over three weeks have passed since Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, announced that assembly members across the country would receive their allowances for two months. However, recent checks indicate that no assembly member has yet received these payments.
According to information gathered by Info Radio, despite the Minister’s declaration, the promised allowances remain unpaid. Hon. Ernest Kansangabata, an Assembly Member representing Issa Electoral Area in the Daffiama-Busie Issa District, voiced his frustration on the issue. Speaking exclusively to Info Radio, Hon. Kansangabata said, “It has been three weeks since the Minister announced the payment of allowances for two months, yet not a single assembly member has received a dime. The community members are increasingly demanding answers, and we are left in the dark.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Stephen Katuole, the Dean of Assembly Members in the Upper West Region, confirmed the situation. Speaking on the matter, he stated, “Assembly members have still not received the payments as announced by the sector Minister. However, I remain hopeful that payments will be made by the end of July 2025.” He urged his colleagues to remain patient and await the promised disbursements.
As the delay persists, calls for transparency and prompt action continue to grow among assembly members and community stakeholders alike. The Ministry of Local Government has yet to issue a detailed explanation regarding the cause of the delay, leaving many to wonder when the allowances will finally be disbursed.
