The management of St. Aidan’s Anglican Cluster of Schools in Wa, along with the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and School Management Committee (SMC), has issued a stern public disclaimer condemning an incident that has stirred controversy within the educational community.
In a statement read by Rev. Fr. Robert K. Yion, Acting Regional Unit Manager, the school authorities clarified that a recent gathering held on their premises was not an official school event but was unlawfully transformed into a press conference by a group claiming to represent concerned parents and teachers.
The incident occurred on November 1, 2025, when a purported PTA meeting unexpectedly turned into a media platform. The organizers, led by Mr. Zakaria Yakubu, announced themselves as representatives of a “Concerned Parents and Teachers’ Association” in Waa Municipality. However, the school management clarified that they had no prior knowledge or approval of any such press conference.
“The event was initially intended as a routine PTA meeting to discuss developmental challenges facing our schools,” Rev. Fr. Yion explained. “It was later hijacked by individuals who made unsubstantiated and damaging allegations against Madam Sophia Dima Nansu, the Municipal Director of Education. These claims are false and have no basis in fact.”
Adding to the controversy, Mr. Alhassan Rashid, Chairman of the School Management Committee of St. Aidan’s, stated that he was unaware of the content and purpose of the gathering at the time. “We did not organize or endorse this event,” Rashid emphasized. “Our focus was solely on discussing school development issues with parents and teachers. We condemn any actions that seek to tarnish the reputation of our officials without proper evidence.”
The school authorities’ response highlights growing concerns over the misuse of school premises for unofficial gatherings and the potential for misinformation to damage the integrity of educational institutions and officials. As investigations continue, stakeholders are calling for calm and a commitment to constructive dialogue to address the genuine concerns of parents and teachers.
