Some communities in Dabo Electoral Area drink from dugouts

The Assembly Member for Dabo Electoral Area in the Wa West District, Mr Ambrose Gambozie, has raised concerns about the availability of clean drinking water in some communities within his electoral area.

He mentioned that residents in some communities still resort to drinking water from dugouts due to the lack of potable water sources in their communities.  Although some communities have one borehole, whenever it breaks down, residents are left with no choice but to drink water from the dugouts.

Mr Gambozie, who spoke to Info Radio in Wa, revealed that the electoral area has 25 communities, but many of them are experiencing water challenges.

"I have noticed that some communities don't have access to boreholes and are still drinking water from streams and dugouts. For example, Yipaala has a borehole that was drilled by Pronet North, but it has been out of order for some time now. Therefore, the lack of access to clean water is a major challenge in the electoral area." he stated.

According to Mr. Gambozie, there are only two communities that have access to the national grid. Additionally, poor telecommunication networks are causing difficulties in communication and for businesses.

Speaking on the health sector, Mr. Gambozie mentioned that he has to use his teaching allowance to pay the Sanitation Officer at the Dabo Health Centre to maintain cleanliness in and around the health facility.
