SOCO Project Trains Community Facilitators in Wa to Strengthen Local Participation

The Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project has trained community facilitators in Wa to help ensure its infrastructure projects reflect local priorities and are shaped by community input.
Speaking to Info Radio during the training, David Yankey, the project’s zonal coordinator for the Upper West and Savannah regions, said 127 sub-projects had been completed under the first implementation cycle. These include schools, roads, clinics and libraries.
A second cycle is under way, with 173 additional sub-projects planned or being delivered. They include junior high, primary and nursery school blocks, as well as clinics.
Mr Yankey said facilitators would help communities identify and select projects based on local needs. Those priorities are documented in community action plans and aligned with district medium-term development plans, which inform the selection of annual action plans.
Richard Adofo Ansong, the project’s management information system specialist, said the orientation introduced newly recruited facilitators to the SOCO Project and its digital innovations component, which uses both custom-built and open-source tools.
As part of the training, facilitators are being issued biometric tablets to record the attendance of unskilled workers at project sites across the region.
