The Governing Council of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) has approved the establishment of a new School of Medicine and Health Sciences, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s development. The decision was made during the 4th Special Council Meeting held in Aburi, Eastern Region, on December 8th and 9th, 2025.

This strategic move underscores the university’s commitment to expanding its academic offerings and addressing critical healthcare workforce shortages in Northern Ghana. The new school aims to deliver innovative, market-relevant programmes in medicine, nursing, midwifery, public health, and allied health sciences. Pending approval from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), the school will commence operations to serve as a vital training hub for future health professionals.

To facilitate practical training and community engagement, the university is partnering with the Upper West Regional Hospital, which will serve as a primary teaching facility. The collaboration will ensure students are exposed to diverse health challenges while providing much-needed healthcare services to underserved communities in the region.

The establishment of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences is more than an academic expansion; it represents a bold investment in the future of healthcare in Northern Ghana. It positions SDD-UBIDS to become a centre of excellence for medical and health sciences education and offers new opportunities for youth development in the region and across the country.

This development aligns with the university’s vision of becoming a leading institution that fosters innovation, practical training, and community service ,driving forward the integrated development of Northern Ghana and beyond.
