Sankana Youth Call for Upgrading CHPS Compound to a Health Centre to Address Growing Community Needs

The youth of Sankana in the Nadowli/Kaleo District have formally appealed for the upgrade of their Community-Based Health Planning and Service (CHPS) compound to a full-fledged Health Centre, citing the rapid population growth and increasing healthcare demands in the community.

Speaking on Info Radio’s News Current Affairs Program Ti Zine Yiri Yela , Mr. Eric Dakurah, the Youth Leader of Sankana, emphasized that, the current CHPS facility for Sankanna is inadequate to serve the health needs of the expanding population. "Our community's population has outgrown the capacity of the existing CHPS compound, making it difficult to provide comprehensive healthcare services," Mr. Dakurah stated.

He revealed that an organized delegation from Sankana recently met with key stakeholders, including the Vice President, Prof. Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and the enskinned Developmental Queen Mother of Sankana, Pognaa Piirima Maaloma. The delegation presented the community’s health challenges and appealed for support to upgrade the facility. The Queen Mother assured them of her commitment to advocate for the community’s cause and lobby for the necessary upgrade to a Health Centre.

The youth believe that elevating the facility will greatly enhance access to quality healthcare services, ultimately improving health outcomes for residents.

Mr. Dakurah also used the platform to address issues affecting the youth. He urged young people involved in substance abuse to abandon such practices, emphasizing that abstinence from drugs and harmful substances is crucial for maintaining health, dignity, and productivity. "Staying away from drugs will help us preserve our health and contribute positively to our community’s development," he affirmed.
