Sahara Advocates of Change sensitizes communities on HIV

A total of 1062 people in rural communities and deprived Senior High Schools in the Upper West Region have received health education and sensitization on HIV and Hepatitis B and C Virus diseases.
Out of the numbers, 336 of them voluntarily went through free screening during the sensitisation with ten of them diagnosed of HBV and referred to the nearest hospitals for advice and further management.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Madam Lina Beneb, the Programme Manager for SAC and copied to Info Radio in Wa.
The campaign was supported by Gilead Science and aimed at creating awareness, screening, and testing of those diseases in rural communities and distant senior high schools where there are no health facilities or where the facilities are far from.
Some beneficiary communities are Naakateng and Ba-o-jon in the Wa West District where the nearest health center of Gurungu is about 8 kilometers. Others are Gbankonyiri and Baabayiri in the Daffiam-Bussie-Issah District where the nearest health facility is in Konzokala which is about 6 kilometers.
The rest were Dodoma, Donye, Dompie, Dugbalipare, Tankara, Tambigye No. 1 and 2, all of Wa West District where the nearest health facility is about 10 kilometers in Tokali.
The beneficiary Senior High Schools of the intervention are Takpo Senior High, Sombo Senior High, Tibani Vocational Institute and Loggu Senior High.
