Wa West: Pigbengbeng residents demand the operationalization of CHPS compound

A completed Community-Based Health Planning and Service (CHPS) compound at Pigbengbeng in the Wa West District has been left at the mercy of the weather.

According to the residents, the building was completed about a year ago and is left with equipment for it to be operationalized.

During a recent visit by Info Radio, it was observed that the walls of the healthcare facility have started deteriorating. The facility has been neglected and is now covered in animal droppings, cobwebs and bats. The toilet and washroom facilities are in a terrible state and are unfit for human use.

While the residents are grateful to the district assembly for building the facility, they are unhappy that it has been sitting there unused for about a year with no equipment or health staff.

The residents have made a passionate appeal to duty bearers to equip the facility and commission it for them to benefit from it.

Madam Vida Diorotey, the District Chief Executive for Wa West responding to the residents appeal, stated that the assembly has developed a comprehensive plan to equip the CHPS compound, along with two other health facilities in the district.

She stated that the plan is currently awaiting approval from the central government to purchase equipment and furniture, before handing over the facility to the health directorate for the benefit of the community. She expressed optimism that the facility will be open for usage by mid-year 2024.
