Residents of Saalimana in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region have appealed to government to connect the community to the national electricity grid.
They bemoaned that the lack of electricity is taking a great toll on their economic lives and social wellbeing.
According to the resident they are unable to engage in businesses that require the use of electricity such sachet water and cold fish businesses.
In an interview with Info Radio at the community, Madam Esther Babang, another resident, described the lack of electricity in the community as a major challenge adversely affecting their living conditions.
Mr. Alhassan Salifu, another resident, said they always find it difficult to charge their mobile phones due to the unavailability of electricity in the community.
He said they have trek several kilometres to other nearby communities before they can charge their mobile phones.
Madam Dabuo Naom added that their school children find it difficult to learn at night as they have to rely on dry cell-powered torchlights adding that “the cost of the dry cells have gone up that we are unable to purchase sets of them on weekly basis.”
She said the phenomenon badly affects the academic performance the schoolchildren.
The residents of the Salimaana community therefore, appealed to the Wa West District Assembly and the government to come to their aid with the electricity to help improve their livelihoods.
