Community members in Ga, a town in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region have officially handed over a newly constructed two-bedroom nurses’ bungalow to the Ga Health Centre, marking a significant milestone in local healthcare infrastructure development.
The initiative, rooted in a strong community self-help approach, aims to address the longstanding challenge of providing adequate accommodation for community health nurses. The handover ceremony was attended by local leaders and stakeholders, emphasizing the collective effort behind the project.
Hon. Kuusani Gbang Cornelius, the Assemblyman for Ga, highlighted the crucial role played by chiefs, elders, and residents in spearheading the project. He also acknowledged the substantial support received from Hon. Peter Lanchene Toobu, Member of Parliament for the area, whose contributions were instrumental in bringing the project to completion.

Naa Mark Banda, Chief of Bagbong and former District Chief Executive for Wa Central, commended the community’s collective effort, noting that chiefs and elders contributed GH₵7,000 toward the project. He further expressed gratitude to the MP, who provided GH₵40,000 and 25 bags of cement, underscoring the importance of political support in community-led initiatives.
While the community’s effort marks a positive step, both the Assemblyman and health officials acknowledged ongoing challenges. The community still faces a critical shortage of adequate nurse accommodation, with an additional facility requiring urgent renovation. The Assemblyman called on the MP, the District Chief Executive, and other stakeholders to support these renovation efforts, with ongoing community contributions.
Mr. Abdulai Yahaya, Chairman of the Ga Community Health Management Committee, highlighted that the health centre continues to grapple with multiple challenges, including staff shortages and inadequate storage facilities. He called for increased posting of health personnel and the construction of a storeroom to ensure the safe storage of medicines.
In a gesture of support, Mr. Latif Mumuni Kansanaa, CEO of SG Mobile Health Care, donated essential drugs and two new beds to the Ga Health Centre, aiming to bolster healthcare delivery in the community.
This collaborative effort underscores the community’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and services, promising a healthier future for residents in the Wa West District.
