Residents of Charikuuri, a farming community in the Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region have voiced growing concerns over the deteriorating condition of the community’s road infrastructure, which has severely hampered access to neighboring towns and essential services. The community's access roads are reported to be in a state of disrepair, becoming virtually impassable during the rainy season and isolating residents from critical healthcare, education, and economic opportunities.

In an interview with Info Radio, a community elder , Mr. James Kpierele highlighted the gravity of the situation, stating, “During the rainy season, we cannot travel to Nadowli or Charikpong to access healthcare or other vital services. The roads are so bad that it’s dangerous to attempt travel, especially in emergencies.” He further explained that the poor road conditions have a direct impact on the community’s education system, as teachers often fail to report for classes on rainy days, leading to disruptions in learning.

The community’s Assembly Member, Dabonaa Thomas, expressed similar concerns, describing the state of the roads as the most pressing development challenge facing Charikuuri. “There is not a single good road linking us to our sister communities,” he lamented. Mr. Thomas emphasized that the community’s efforts to seek government intervention have been ongoing, with several meetings held with the Member of Parliament to draw attention to the urgent need for road rehabilitation.

Residents and local leaders are calling for immediate action from authorities to address the deplorable road conditions, which they say are undermining their health, education, and economic prospects. The community hopes that concerted efforts will soon translate into tangible improvements, restoring connectivity and enabling residents to access vital services throughout the year.
