The Lawra Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Honorable Soyelle Cecilia Nuratu, has issued a stern warning to residents of Babile, urging them to refrain from using public spaces, including the Babile market, as dumping grounds for refuse. She emphasized that such practices pose serious threats to public health and local livelihoods.
Hon. Nuratu made the appeal during the inaugural National Sanitation Day clean-up exercise for 2026, held on Saturday, January 3. The event saw enthusiastic participation from hundreds of community members, including the Member of Parliament for Lawra, Bede Ziedeng, and the Regent of Babile, Vitus Kadoe Dapilah.
Addressing the crowd after the cleanup, the MCE expressed her appreciation for the community’s strong turnout. She underscored the importance of maintaining cleanliness for healthy living and disease prevention, calling on residents to make environmental hygiene a daily habit. She also specifically warned against indiscriminate dumping of waste within trading areas, highlighting that the market is a vital space where food is bought and sold and must be kept pristine at all times.
Supporting the initiative, MP Bede Ziedeng commended Babile’s residents for their impressive participation. He reiterated that National Sanitation Day aims to reinforce the significance of cleanliness and foster personal responsibility in maintaining a healthy environment.
The Regent of Babile, Vitus Kadoe Dapilah, linked cleanliness to health and spirituality, describing the people of Babile as God-fearing and health-conscious. He explained that a clean environment enhances well-being and motivated residents to actively participate in the event, reflecting their collective commitment to both spiritual and physical health.
