Power supply to Upper West Regional Hospital restored

Power supply to the Upper West Regional Hospital in Wa has been restored after it was disconnected from the grid by the Northern Electricity Distribution Company of the Volta River Authority (VRA/NEDCo) as part of its revenue mobilisation efforts.

Mr Francis Yormesor, the Wa Operational Area Manager of the VRA/NEDCo, said the hospital made a payment of GHȻ50,000.00 of the GHȻ20 million it owed the electricity distribution company.

He, however, said the Ministry of Health had requested his outfit to compile a comprehensive list of all health facilities in the operational area that owed the company, with the corresponding debts which he had done with the hope that the ministry would settle the debt.

The Nursing Training School in Wa, Dr. Hila Limann Technical University (DHLTU), and the Wa High Court that were also disconnected had also been re-connected after they made part payment of their debts.

Mr Yormesor explained that the DHLTU also paid GHȻ50,000.00 of its GHȻ2.2 million it owed, the Wa High Court paid about GHȻ11,900.00 of the about GHȻ16,000.00 debt, while the Nursing Training School had also paid GHȻ5,000.00 of the about GHȻ26,000.00 it owed.

However, he said they were following up on the management of the DHLTU to pay at least 75% of its debt or it risked being disconnected again, while a payment plan had been reached with the Wa NTC to settle the remaining debt by ending of May.

The Wa Operational Area had so far mobilised GHȻ2.3 million of the GHȻ89 million target in the exercise.
