Penintobo Health Facility Struggles with Only One Nurse and No Midwife

Residents of Penintobo in the Nadowli Kaleo District are expressing fear over what they describe as a dire healthcare situation at their health facility.

According to Mr Waahu Oscar, a resident who spoke to Info Radio on behalf of the community, the facility operates with a single nurse, who bears the burden of attending to all patients.

"Sometimes she’s not even available because she’s assigned elsewhere. When that happens, we have no choice but to travel to other communities for healthcare," he lamented.

More worrying, he added, is the complete absence of a midwife, leaving pregnant women vulnerable during labour.  "There is no one to assist during childbirth. It’s heartbreaking."

The challenges don’t end there. Mr Oscar revealed that the health facility often runs out of essential drugs and lacks enough beds to accommodate admitted patients. The situation, he said, puts both patients and the lone health worker under immense strain.

He called on the Nadowli Kaleo District Health Directorate to post qualified health personnel to the community and urged the government and NGOs to intervene by renovating the facility and improving medical supplies.
