Some patients at the Duong Bone Centre, a traditional fracture treatment centre at Duong in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, have sung praises on the centre for its effectiveness in the treatment of fractures.
They said treatment of fractures at the centre is very fast in healing as compared to treatment of such fractures at the hospitals.
Mr Karim Salifu, a patient at the Duong Bone Centre undergoing treatment for a broken leg, said this in an interview with Info Radio at Duong.
He said he was afraid of coming to the centre for the treatment due to the myths he heard about traditional bone treatment, especially the pain one goes but that what he has experienced there is different from what he heard.
"For the local treatment, many people are always saying that you'll feel the pain and because of that I was afraid of coming but when I came it's not how they talk about it; It's normal," he stated.
Mr Gabriel Gyan, a former patient of the centre, explained that the Duong bone centre should be the first point of call for treatment of fractures if one wants fast and effective healing.
Mr Gyan, who is the Health Promotion Officer of the centre, explained that rejected fracture cases from the hospital are brought to the Duong Bone Centre and that if a fracture case is referred from the centre to the hospital then it is to be amputated.
He indicated that despite the effectiveness of the fracture treatment at the Duong Bone Centre it is not expensive as compared to the cost of treatment at the hospital.
