PA Chairman of Varempare Primary School Expresses Concern Over School Infrastructure

The Parents Association Chairman (PA) of Varempere Methodist Primary School in the Varempere Electoral Area of the Wa West District, Mr Bayuon Adams, has said the structures made with guinea corn straws in the school are to prevent the sun and not rain from the school children.

The PA Chairman expressed his disappointment about the deplorable state of the school’s infrastructure. The school is bedeviled, with inadequate classrooms with most children sitting in structures made of guinea corn straws to learn.

The Varempare School had its roof torn off by a rainstorm that struck the community on Monday, May 20, 2024.

Mr Adams mentioned that the school has to close anytime it threatens to rain due to the lack of befitting classrooms.

“We have to raise the structure back using the guinea corn straws as we await the government and NGOs intervention. We know these straws cannot protect our children from the rain, but anytime it threatens to rain, the children have to close and go home.”

He mentioned that if the government or NGOs do not intervene, it will take time for the PTA to mobilize resources to address the other affected classes.

The Assistant Headmistress of the Varempere Methodist Primary School, Madam Theresa Ngmenekuma, noted that the KG 1, 2 and B1 to B3 were already sitting under the structures made of guinea corn straws before the disaster occurred and it had added more infrastructure deficit to the school.
