According to the Ghana Aids Commission 2022 report, there are 7,185 people who are living with HIV in the Upper West Region.

Mr. Osei Bonsu Gyamfi, the Upper West Regional Technical Coordinator for HIV/AIDS, expressed concern about the alarming situation in the region in an interview with Info Radio.

Out of the total, Wa Municipal alone has 1,902 people living with the virus, with 1,261 being females. The region has recorded 74 new HIV infections in 2022, with 149 children living with HIV.

Mr. Gyamfi lamented that if care is not taken, the situation will escalate.

“The infection is going up. The way things are it will reach an escalating level if care is not taken,” he stated.

He emphasized that HIV is real, and the number of people getting infected is going up. He urged the media to intensify education on the virus.
