No SHS will close, food has been supplied - UWR Minister

The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih has disclosed that food items have been supplied to the various Senior High Schools in the region, saying that no school will be closed.

He made the disclosure on Info Radio’s morning show, Zienyaaye Upper West on Friday, July 22, 2022 to inform the people of the region about the plans of the government in developing the region and the nation at large.

Dr. Salih noted that the complaint by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), Upper West Region about feeding in the schools was not about total shortage of foods in the Senior High Schools but unavailability of some foodstuff.

He said the Ghana Education Service (GES) investigated the matter and reported that not all schools in the region were affected the situation.

According to the Minister, the National Food Buffer Stock had not provided some food items to the affected senior high schools, and not total shortage.

He has, thus, indicated that food has been supplied to all schools in the region and no school will close due to the shortage of foods as stated by the CHASS.

Speaking about Ghana School Feeding Programme, Dr. Salih noted that government has paid all basic schools caterers across the country.

He urged basic school feeding caterers to remain at post as the government owes them no arrears.

He noted that strenuous effort are being put in place to improve education in the region.

He said the region was already making strides in the area according to reports from Regional Education Directorate.
