The Upper West Regional office of the National Insurance Commission, NIC has organised a voluntary blood donation exercise to help stock the Upper West Region Hospital Blood Bank.

The exercise was held at the Wa Senior High Technical School to afford the school children the opportunity to donate their blood to help save the lives of people visiting the hospital who may require blood to survive.

Speaking to Info Radio during the blood donation exercise, Mr Frederick Boakye-Yiadom, the Upper West Regional Manager of the NIC, said the exercise is an annual activity by the commission to help save lives.

He said the intervention by the NIC is a way of showing love to the public, especially those who will benefit from the blood donated.

“We believe that insurance is also about covering live and is about offering protection. And, one way of also showing love or protecting life is to give life to people.

Motor accidents come with a lot of injuries and as commission we are also concerned. We also believe that by donating blood to stock up the blood banks we are also helping victims of motor accident who happen to be one of our priorities so that they can also receive emergency treatment at the various hospitals,” he stated.

Mr Boakye-Yiadom noted that it is important to purchase insurance packages as it can help save both motorists and passengers in case of an accident. He encourages the public to consider buying insurance.

The Manager of the Blood Bank at the Upper West Regional Hospital, Mr Alhassan Abdul-Nasiri, expressed his appreciation to the National Insurance Commission (NIC) for organizing a blood donation exercise.

He believes that this will help to stock the blood bank and enable the facility to provide better service to the public.
