MTN Ghana, the country's leading telecommunications provider, is currently experiencing a widespread network outage in Wa and its environs in the Upper West Region, beginning at approximately 2 p.m. today. Customers in affected area have been unable to make voice calls, send text messages, access mobile data, or conduct mobile money transactions since the disruption began.
Residents of Wa and other surrounding communities speaking to Info Radio expressed their frustration with the sudden blackout, noting the absence of any prior warning or communication from MTN Ghana. In an interview with Info Radio, affected users criticized the network’s recent performance, describing it as increasingly unreliable and calling on regulatory authorities to intervene and ensure better service quality.
As of now, MTN Ghana has not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the outage, which has persisted for over three hours. Meanwhile, competing networks such as Telecel are reportedly operating normally in the region, highlighting the severity of the disruption faced by MTN customers.
The outage has raised concerns among residents and industry observers, emphasizing the need for improved network resilience and customer communication from service providers. MTN Ghana's management has yet to address the issue or provide an estimated timeline for service restoration.
