Minister commends Unilever for supporting women in entrepreneurship

The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, has commended Unilever Ghana PLC for investing in women in the region as a poverty alleviation mechanism.


He said the intervention of Unilever Ghana PLC showed that the company was not only interested in squeezing money from the general public to make profit but to also impact meaningfully in the lives of its customers.


The minister made the commendations in Wa on Tuesday when Unilever Ghana PLC supported one hundred (100) women in the Upper West Region with product credit to enable them start businesses.


The women were from the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa, Nadowli-Kaleo and Wa East Districts and the Wa Municipality.


Beneficiaries

Each woman received Unilever Ghana PLCE products including boxes of key soap bars, boxes of sunlight soap, boxes of geisha soap and boxes of pepsodent toothpaste worth GH¢1,400.00.


Dr salih expressed hopes that the gesture would reach more women in the near future and appealed to the cooperate industry to emulate the gesture and to support the vulnerable people in society to help reduce the poverty level in the region.


He also talked on the agriculture and tourism potentials of the region that needed to be invested in to create jobs for the people.


“I urge our women who today have been offered the opportunity by Unilever Ghana PLCE to make the best out of this offer. Our success will determine the sustenance of this programme and for that matter it extension to more women in the region”, Dr. Salih explained.


The Deputy Director of ProNet North, Madam Catherine Amisah, told Info Radio in an interview that the intervention would also help reduce the impact of climate change on the environment.


She explained that some soap also contributed to climate change but that Unilever Ghana PLC soap have been tried, tested and proven globally to be climate friendly.


Madam Catherine Lankono, the District Chief Executive for Nadowli-Kaleo District, urged the women to make judicious use of the support to help improve their livelihood.
