Military beats Media 11 in gala games in Wa


A gala competition between Military (Soldiers in Wa) and Media 11 (media practitioners and journalist in Wa) in Wa, Upper West Regional capital on Friday ended two goals to one against Media 11.


Tajudeen Erasung of Home Radio in the region gave Media 11 a comfortable lead in the second half until Military came from behind to equalise and within a few minutes added another goal.


Mr Erasung scored a brace but the referee, disallowed one of the goals on grounds that it was an off-side goal.


Also a match between Magazine workers (auto mechanics in Wa) and Butchers in Wa also ended one goal to zero against the butchers.


In other games, Media 11 lost a tag of war competition to Magazine workers while the Military also lost the tag of war to the Magazine workers.



Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, the Paramount Chief of the Wala Traditional Area, organised the games to foster peace between the people of Wa and the Military after the military brutalities against the people of Wa on Thursday, July 1, 2021.

The finals were scheduled to be played on Friday, 30th July, 2021.


Media 11 and the Butchers would battle for the third and fourth position while the Military and Magazine workers would also compete for the first and second slots.


The winning team would be awarded an undisclosed price.


Scores of people, including the Wa Naa and the Upper West Regional Commanding Officer (CO) of the Ghana Armed Force, gathered at the Tinbamba Junior High School Park to witness the games amidst “Jama” from the military.
