Metii Community in Wa West Gets Long-Awaited CHPS Compound as Construction Begins

Residents of Metii, a farming community in the Gurungu Electoral Area of the Wa West District can now look forward to improved healthcare access following the groundbreaking of a new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound. The project, which has been long demanded by the community, officially commenced with a sod-cutting ceremony, signaling the beginning of construction.
During the ceremony, Wa West District Chief Executive (DCE) Richard Wulo emphasized the government's commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure in underserved areas. "This project aims to provide Metii with a functional health center that will significantly improve access to quality healthcare services," he stated. Wulo called on community members to support the contractor by providing labor and other assistance where necessary, to ensure the project progresses smoothly and is completed within the stipulated timeframe.
The DCE also urged the contractor to uphold high standards of quality to deliver a facility that meets both community expectations and district regulations. He further assured residents that efforts are underway to connect the new health center to water supply systems, which are vital for effective healthcare delivery upon completion.
Representing the Wa West District Health Directorate, Madam Alberta Azaah, speaking on behalf of District Health Director Madam Cecilia Kakariba, expressed gratitude to the District Assembly for prioritizing health infrastructure in Metii. She appealed to the contractor to deliver quality work within the six-month construction period, emphasizing the importance of timely completion to address persistent health challenges faced by the community.
Mr. Nkaar D. Timothy, speaking on behalf of the local chiefs and elders, also conveyed appreciation for the project. He assured that the community is fully committed to supporting the construction process and will work collaboratively to ensure the successful completion of the facility.
