Health authorities at Lawra Municipal Hospital in the Upper West Region have issued a pressing appeal to the government and development partners to address severe operational challenges hindering quality healthcare delivery. The appeal coincided with the donation of medical equipment valued at GH¢100,000 by the Member of Parliament for Lawra, Bede Ziedeng, aimed at bolstering the hospital’s capacity to serve the community effectively.
During the presentation, Senior Nurse Supervisor Madam Prudence Baneberi highlighted the dire shortages of essential non-drug consumables, which are crucial for daily medical procedures. She revealed that the scarcity of basic supplies such as gloves and syringes has forced patients to purchase these items out of pocket before receiving treatment—an obstacle that often leads to delays and compromised care, especially for vulnerable populations unable to afford the additional costs.
Madam Baneberi emphasized that the ongoing shortages significantly undermine the hospital’s ability to deliver timely and effective healthcare services, calling on authorities and stakeholders to intervene urgently to ensure a steady supply of necessary consumables.
Hospital Administrator Mr. Inusah Osman further painted a grim picture of the facility’s infrastructure, which has been in operation for over 95 years. He appealed for immediate renovation and upgrading efforts to modernize the hospital’s infrastructure, ensuring it can meet the evolving healthcare needs of the community.
Both officials appealed to the government, non-governmental organizations, corporate entities, and philanthropic individuals to support efforts aimed at revitalizing the hospital’s infrastructure and supply chain. They underscored that such interventions are critical to safeguarding the health and well-being of the people of Lawra and its environs.
