Lack of Health Centre and Quality Roads Leaves Residents of Kanyiguasi Struggling

Kanyinguasi, a community located along the main Tumu-Wa road in the Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region , is facing pressing infrastructural challenges that threaten the well-being and development of its residents. Despite its strategic position, the community remains without a CHPS compound and proper roads, compelling residents to travel long distances to access essential health and educational services.

Speaking exclusively to Info Radio, community member Mr. Alfred Yendor highlighted the dire health situation, noting that residents have no local health facility to serve pregnant women, children, and the sick. "We are forced to travel to the Wa Municipal or Upper West Regional Hospitals whenever someone falls ill, which is often difficult and costly," Yendor lamented.

The plight of women, particularly pregnant women in labor, was also underscored by Madam Dery Mary, who described the community's struggles. She emphasized that the absence of a CHPS facility exacerbates childbirth difficulties, endangering both mothers and infants.

In addition to health concerns, the community faces significant educational infrastructure deficits. Madam Dery called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to intervene, citing a lack of teachers, classrooms, and basic furniture such as chairs for pupils. "Our children deserve proper learning environments, but currently, they sit on the floor in a three-unit classroom that caters to both Kindergarten and Primary Six students," she said.

Responding to these concerns, the Assembly Member for Kanyinguasi, Hon. Yirinoba Ametus, confirmed the community’s struggles. He revealed that the entire community relies on a single three-unit classroom block, which is inadequate for the growing student population. Despite repeated appeals and assurances from the district assembly, no tangible progress has been made to improve the educational infrastructure.

Mr. Ametus also reiterated the residents’ call for the establishment of a health facility, emphasizing that addressing these critical needs is essential for the community’s social and economic development.
