The prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS is low in the Lambussie district of the Upper West Region, according to Mr Emmanuel Essilifie Quarnoo, the Lambussie District HIV Focal Person.

Mr Quarnoo said this in an interview with Info Radio in the Billaw community during the 39th Farmers’ Day celebration. The Lambussie District Health Directorate organised HIV/AIDS screening to commemorate World AIDS Day which coincided with the farmers’ day celebration.

He said “so far we have tested 74 and one reacted. This shows that the Lambussie district, we are doing well. HIV is low over here as at now and we will continue to do the sensitization and counseling basically in the senior high schools”

Mr Quarnoo expressed concern over the delayed release of government funds for various activities and appealed for their timely disbursement.

He urged the people of Lambussie to get tested and know their HIV status, emphasizing that testing positive is not the end of life.

“We’re letting the community people to know that it is good to know their status. If you react to be positive it doesn’t mean that, that is your end that makes you live long and takes the medicine,” he stated.

Mr Quarnoo urged the people of Lambussie to not let their guard down, despite the district's low prevalence rate. He emphasized the importance of following all necessary protocols to stay safe.
