GT Bank hands over refurbished computer laboratory to Wa Model JHS

Refurbished ICT block

The Guaranty Trust Bank Ltd (GTBank) has handed over a fully refurbished computer laboratory to the Wa Municipal Model Junior High School in the Upper West Region.

The bank renovated the facility and stocked it with 25 computers, a printer, a projector, internet connectivity, furniture, and two air conditioners to aid in the practical teaching and learning of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the school.

Addressing the students, teachers, and some stakeholders at a brief ceremony at the school premises to hand over the facility, the Divisional Head of Corporate Communication and Experience of GTBank, Madam Agnes Owusu-Afram, said the intervention was part of the Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR) of the bank to impact the lives of the people in Wa and the region at large.

The GTBank commenced operations in Wa, Upper West Region in May 2022 with a promise of providing quality and customer-centric banking services to people in the region as well as impacting the lives of the people through their CSR, especially in the area of ICT.

She explained that the CSR was to consolidate the relationship between the bank and the people in Wa and expressed hope that it would help improve ICT education at the school.

Before the intervention, the school, with a population of over 900 students and 29 teachers relied on only six computers for practical teaching and learning of ICT.

“We commenced operation in Wa early this year and sought a way to contribute to the human development in the community we operate in.

After several consultations, we chose the Wa Model JHS as the next beneficiary of our ICT initiative. We believe this will go a long way to adequately prepare these students for the future”, Madam Owusu-Afram indicated.

She observed that the computer laboratory would help bridge the educational gap between the students in that school and their counterparts in high-ranking schools in other parts of the country through easy access to information through the internet.

She said the bank had developed products for all categories of people including children.
