Gboriteng residents struggle with impassable river, poor roads in Wa West
Residents of Gboriteng, a farming community in the Kandeu Electoral Area of the Wa West District say poor roads and an impassable river are making it difficult to access healthcare and attend school.
The challenges are particularly affecting children who travel to Lassie for junior high school. Some have stopped attending, while others who continue to make the journey frequently fall ill, a resident Mr. Bunaa Fidelis told Info News.
Mr Fidelis said the poor road conditions had made daily life a struggle and also hampered residents’ efforts to seek medical care.
Matthew Kuumor described the river as the community’s most pressing concern. He said residents had repeatedly raised the issue with government representatives, but had yet to see a lasting solution.
Another resident, Wong-ere Annonu, proposed building an overpass as a temporary measure. He said community members had tried to address the problem themselves but were unable to continue.
The Assembly Member for Kandeu Electoral Area Hon. Simon Yirinebe acknowledged residents’ concerns, saying the District Assembly had started work on the road before the rainy season forced a halt. He expressed hope that work would resume after the rains subside.
