The Food and Drugs Authority, FDA has advised the public against the consumption of unwholesome food as the Christmas season approaches.
It said some traders sell unwholesome products during the yuletide, especially when those products are near expiring or expired because people usually are not vigilant during these seasons.
Mr Isaac Jakalia, a Senior Regulatory Officer at the Upper West Regional office of the FDA gave the advice in an interview with Info Radio in Wa.
He therefore encouraged the public to endeavor to check the registration number and expiring date of products they buy from the market or shops.
He said they should contact the FDA for advice when they are in doubt of the safety of any product they want to buy.
Mr Jakalia also cautioned the public to be wary of the canned products they buy as some of them are expired while in the shops.
Mr Mohammed Shamil, also a regulatory officer at the Upper West Regional Office of the FDA, advised the public against patronizing items, especially food that are sold on promotion, such as “buy one get one free”.
He said this is because most of such products are expired or near expiring.
