Dorye Residents Face Water Crisis Amid Borehole Maintenance Neglect

ree

The Assembly Member for the Dornye Electoral Area, Hon. Emmanuel Leayi Kyekuo, has issued a stern warning to residents over their neglect of borehole maintenance, highlighting the growing water crisis in the community.

During an interview with Info Radio in Wa, Hon. Kyekuo expressed concern that despite the presence of five boreholes in Dornye, access to potable water remains a significant challenge due to lack of proper upkeep. He emphasized that residents have been repeatedly sensitized on the importance of maintaining these facilities, yet many continue to neglect their responsibilities, leading to frequent breakdowns.

"The residents are negligent whenever these boreholes break down. I have consistently urged them to maintain these facilities, but unfortunately, their efforts have been insufficient," Hon. Kyekuo stated. He acknowledged that some major repairs are beyond the community’s financial capacity, but criticized residents for ignoring minor issues that they could address themselves.

Residents of Dornye corroborated these claims, revealing that they have pooled resources and repaired the boreholes multiple times since their commissioning in 2020. However, recent damages have rendered the boreholes largely unusable, exacerbating the community’s water shortage.

The community members expressed frustration over the persistent breakdowns, which they say hinder their access to clean water. They noted that despite their efforts to sustain the boreholes, the current state of disrepair is beyond their immediate control.

This ongoing water crisis underscores the urgent need for coordinated action between local authorities and residents to ensure proper maintenance and sustainable access to potable water in Dornye.
