Residents of Die, a farming community in the Die-Zengpeni Electoral Area of the Jirapa Municipal, have appealed to the government and the Jirapa Municipal Assembly to reinstate the school feeding program in their community.
The residents expressed concern over the absence of the program at the Die Kindergarten and Primary School, highlighting its importance for the health and educational development of the children.
Speaking to Info Radio, community members underscored that the school feeding program plays a crucial role in improving children's health, increasing school attendance, and enhancing overall well-being.
They believe that restoring the program would foster better educational outcomes and contribute positively to community development.
Mr. Amos Bamilee, a resident, revealed that the community had previously initiated a feeding program for the children, which was subsequently halted. He is urging the government to re-enroll the children in the program to ensure they continue benefiting from its support.
The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) is a government initiative designed to provide free, nutritious meals to schoolchildren across the country, particularly in deprived and rural areas.
The program aims to reduce hunger among school-aged children, improve their nutritional status, and encourage enrollment and regular attendance, thereby addressing educational disparities.
For beneficiary schools like those in Die, the program is vital as it not only supports children's health but also alleviates the financial burden on families, making education more accessible and sustainable.
Restoration of the GSFP in Die would therefore be a significant step toward enhancing the educational environment and overall quality of life for children in the community.
