DHLTU graduates 678 students at 5th Congregation


The Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU) graduated a total of 678 students on Saturday, May 18, 2024.


The graduates, comprising 251 females and 427 males, were awarded Higher National Diplomas (HND) after successfully completing various study programs in the 2022/2023 academic year.


In his report to the congregation, the Vice Chancellor of the DHLTU, Sir Prof Elias N.K. Sowley, highlighted the significant progress the University has made.


He reported that 36 teaching staff of the university are pursuing their PhD programs, while 5 administrative staff are pursuing Master's programs.


Three junior staff are also pursuing Diploma programs. Additionally, he announced the introduction of new Bachelor of Technology and graduate programs beginning next academic year.


“These programs have been carefully designed to align with industry demands, foster interdisciplinary learning, and equip our graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their chosen fields,” he added.


Some of the programs include Bachelor of Technology in Hospitality and Catering Management, Bachelor of Technology in Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology among others.


The graduate programs include Master Science (MSc) in Construction Engineering and Management, Master of Technology (MTech) in Mechanical Engineering and Management and Master of Technology (MTech) in Irrigation and Conservation Agriculture.


Chief Sulemana Nabila, the Chairman of the University Governing Council, commended the University staff for their contributions and cooperation with the management and the council.


He congratulated the graduates and urged them to be good ambassadors of the University and to support their alma mater.


He also called on the government to provide the necessary funds and resources for the completion of abandoned infrastructural projects at the University.


“I urge contractors who have been entrusted with the responsibility of executing these projects to fulfill their obligations and complete the work they have started.


“I will also like to use this opportunity to call on upon the government to provide the necessary funds and resources for the completion of the abandoned projects.”


Reading the Upper West Regional Minister’s address on his behalf, the Regional Coordinating Director, Mr Peter Maala, encouraged the University administration to prioritize the welfare of its students and staff.


He expressed hope that the knowledge impacted on the students by the University has prepared them well to face the world with confidence and integrity.


The valedictorian, Miss Amanda Addo Boateng, stated that the university had provided them with the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue their life dreams and make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.


678 students graduated from the University, with 41 receiving First Class honors, 355 receiving Second Class Upper Division honors, and 277 receiving Second Class Lower Division honors. Five students graduated with a pass.
