Residents of Younuuri in the Jagluu Electoral Area of the Wa West District have raised concerns over the continued deterioration of the community’s main road, which has remained in a deplorable state since its construction in 2000. The community members say the road’s poor condition has become a significant barrier to accessing vital services, particularly secondary healthcare at Gurungu.
According to residents, although they once organized communal labor to maintain and clear sections of the road, it has now become completely impassable. Mr. Nong Saamana, a resident, lamented to Info Radio that the road's condition also hampers economic activities, especially the transportation of goods to and from local markets. He appealed to authorities to prioritize the rehabilitation of the road, stressing that improved infrastructure would greatly enhance access to healthcare, markets, and other essential social amenities.
Mr. Nakaa Kpie-uutey a community member speaking to Info Radio reporter Martin Kyasuo Sunti highlighted that the community’s schoolchildren are unable to reach their school on the other side of a river that has effectively cut them off, further complicating their access to education.
In response, District Chief Executive for Wa West Hon. Richard Wulo informed Assembly Members during their second Ordinary Meeting at Wechiau that 30 priority feeder roads have been identified and submitted to the Regional Minister for consideration. He emphasized the district’s ongoing efforts to address critical infrastructure needs, including this pressing issue in Younuuri.
