Daga-Wiili urged to consider observing January as the month for liver cancer testing

Mr Charles Y. Toeng

The Principal Nursing Officer at the Upper West Regional Hospital, Mr Charles Y. Toeng, has urged the people of Daga-Wiile in the Wa West District to prioritize testing for liver cancer during the month of January as a preventive measure against the disease.

According to Mr Toeng, liver cancer has been a major cause of concern and death in the country in recent times.

Speaking during the Daga-Wiile Seontaa Boor (Festival) held annually at Vieri, he emphasized that the cost of treating liver cancer is high, and thus it is essential for individuals to take preventive measures to avoid contracting the disease.

“It is abroad that the whites can remove their liver and fix another person but in Africa, it is not possible because nobody will accept to remove his or her liver for another person.

So test yourself and see if you do not have liver cancer, you protect yourself because its treatment is not covered by the NHIS.”

He mentioned that unlike other organs, the liver did not have a backup pair that could function after being infected.

“If you see the way God created man, there are some organs that are two, like the eyes, ears, and testicles, women ovals, Kidney but the liver is one,” he added.

The Principal Nursing Officer explained the causes and symptoms of liver cancer, including risky behaviors such as alcohol consumption and using unclean utensils for drinking.
