CARD hands over water facilities to three communities in Wa West

Community Aid for Rural Development (CARD Ghana), a Non-Governmental Organization, has handed solar-powered mechanized water facilities to three communities in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region.

For the Kanduoli community, a solar-powered mechanized borehole with an overhead water storage tank and two multiple water dispensing standpoints was handed over. Additionally, a solar-powered drip irrigation system with a fenced garden was handed over to each of the Siira and Dabo communities.

The facilities formed part of the implementation of the Sustainable Climate Resilience Action project in 20 selected communities in the district.

Speaking at a brief ceremony to hand over the facilities on Monday, December 29, 2025, Ms. Ernestina Biney, the Program Manager, stated that the facilities are designed to build climate resilience and improve the livelihoods of the people in the beneficiary communities.

She noted that the facilities will not only provide a source of potable water but will also create viable economic opportunities for people, especially women.

She urged the members of the beneficiary communities to take good care of the facilities to ensure they last their lifespan and enhance their economic well-being.

Ms Biney expressed appreciation to the European Union, GIZ, and partners for supporting the project and Homeland Resources Limited and Pumptech Limited, consultants and contractors of the facilities, respectively, for the good work done.

She further thanked the local authorities and members of the communities for making available lands and supporting the initiatives.

Mr. Ramadan Osman Kantunsung, Technical Services Manager at Pumptech, urged the people to have a good maintenance culture towards the facilities and report promptly any technical issues to Pumptech for advice and redress.

He impressed upon the caretakers of the facilities to not to attempt fixing any perceived faults without first contacting Pumptech.

Mr. Simon Kunyagna, Deputy Project Manager, GIZ REACH, said the GIZ was proud to have contributed to the achievement of the milestones in water systems strengthening and livelihood improvement under the climate resilience project.

He thanked CARD Ghana and partners for delivering the projects according to plan for the benefit of the communities.

He called on the beneficiary communities to take care of the facilities to ensure they serve their intended purpose.
