CARD Ghana Unveils Solar Water Solutions in Rural Communities in Wa West District

Community Aid for Rural Development (CARD Ghana), a local Non-Governmental Organization based in Wa, has officially handed over solar-powered mechanized water facilities to three communities in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region. The project aims to enhance water access and promote sustainable livelihoods amidst climate challenges.

In Kanduoli, community members received a solar-powered mechanized borehole equipped with an overhead water storage tank and two water dispensing stands. In, Siira and Dabo communities each benefitted from a solar-powered drip irrigation system coupled with fenced gardens, designed to support agricultural productivity.

These initiatives are part of the broader Sustainable Climate Resilience Action project, which targets 20 communities within the district to strengthen climate adaptation and improve living standards.

At a brief ceremony held on Monday, December 29, 2025, Ms. Ernestina Biney, Acting Executive Director of CARD Ghana, emphasized the importance of the facilities in building climate resilience and fostering community development. "Our goal is to improve livelihoods and ensure sustainable water access amid changing climate conditions," she stated.

Mr. Ramadan Osman Kantunsung, Technical Services Manager at Pumptech, urged community members to adopt proper maintenance practices and promptly report any technical issues to ensure the longevity of the facilities.

Representing GIZ REACH, the funding organization at the commissioning of the projects,, Deputy Project Manager Mr. Simon Kunyangna expressed pride in contributing to the project's success. "This is a significant milestone in strengthening water systems and livelihoods through climate resilience efforts," he remarked.

Beneficiary community members expressed heartfelt gratitude to CARD Ghana, GIZ, and their partners, affirming their commitment to safeguarding and effectively utilizing the new facilities to support their development goals.
