CARD Ghana motivates women to take up political roles

The Community Aid for Rural Development, CARD Ghana has held a day’s training for young women as part of efforts to encourage women's participation in political leadership activities.

The training was also to clear the barriers that prevented young women from participating in political leadership.

Speaking in an interview at the training, Madam Charity Batuure, the Upper West Regional Director of the Department of Gender, noted that including women in decision-making enabled them to make decisions that represented the interest of women.

Madam Batuure explained that women are better managers of the economy and when given the opportunity to lead, they would ensure the judicious use of the state’s resources for development.

She cited countries such as Liberia and Rwanda that have developed through women's leadership.

Madam Leenat Abdul-Rahaman, the Executive director for CARD Ghana, said luxury taxes would not have been imposed on sanitary pads if women actively participated in the decision-making process to arrive at that.

She, therefore, said women’s involvement in decision-making will prevent discriminatory decisions against women and girls.
