Buteli Residents in Dire Need of a Health Center

Residents of Buteli, a community in the Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region of Ghana have appealed to the government and their member of Parliament to provide the community with a health facility to enable them have access primary healthcare services when the need arises.

According to residents of the community, Sick persons have to be transported over long distances to Takpo before they could access healthcare services.

Madam Sophia, a resident who made the appeal in an interview with Info Radio at the community, noted that the aged, women, and children were the most affected groups in the community as far as access to healthcare services is concerned.

According to her, pregnant women have to be transported on bicycles to Takpo, a nearby community which is over 8km in order to access skilled delivery, a situation she described as dangerous.

Madam Sophia revealed that some pregnant women sometimes deliver on their way to the health center.

A resident, Mr Ali speaking to Info Radio noted that their plight is compounded by the bad state of the road linking the Buteli community to Takpo, and said they are locked up in the community during the rainy season. He recounted instances where his brother nearly died and his wife givinf birth on the road due to the lack of a health facility in the community.

The residents, therefore, indicated that if nothing is done to reduce their developmental challenges they will not partake in any national exercise, especially voting in the coming years as politicians keep deceiving them for their votes and disappear after winning elections.
