Assemblyman Calls for Completion of Abandoned Kachiau Health Centre

Assembly Member for the Kandeu Electoral Area in the Wa West District, Hon. Simon Yirinebe, has appealed to government to expedite the completion of the Kachiau Health Centre project, describing its abandonment as a major setback to healthcare delivery in the area.

Speaking to Info Radio, Hon. Yirinebe said construction of the facility has stalled for about four years, leaving the project incomplete and unused despite resources invested in its development.

He expressed concern that residents continue to face challenges in accessing quality healthcare, particularly during the rainy season when poor road conditions make travel to health facilities difficult.

According to him, the community currently depends on a self-initiated mobile health service operated by nurses, but stressed that the arrangement is only a temporary measure and cannot replace a fully functional health centre.

The Assembly Member called on the Wa West District Chief Executive, Hon. Richard Wulo, and the Member of Parliament, Hon. Peter Lanchene Toobu, to prioritize the completion of the project. He said bringing the facility into operation would improve access to healthcare, reduce health risks, and enhance service delivery for residents.

Hon. Yirinebe also highlighted the healthcare challenges confronting neighbouring communities. He noted that Gborteng has no health facility, forcing residents to travel to the Lassia Health Centre for medical care. During the rainy season, however, flooding often cuts off access to Lassia, leaving residents with limited healthcare options.

He added that residents of Bakpateng also depend on the Lassia Health Centre, while community health facilities in Kandeu and Kawu lack adequate infrastructure and resources to effectively serve the growing population.

Hon. Yirinebe therefore called for urgent government intervention to complete the Kachiau Health Centre and strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the Wa West District, saying improved access to quality healthcare remains essential to the well-being of residents.
