The aged and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) at Gogi, a community in the Wa East District, have expressed disappointment over their exclusion in the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty, LEAP programme.
They said no resident of the community has benefited from the programme and wondered if they are not Ghanaians.
Speaking in an interview with Info News team at the community, Mr. Yahaya Sumani, a resident said they are aware of people from other communities in the area who are receiving the LEAP support but they are cut off.
He therefore appealed to the Wa East District Assembly, through the District Chief Executive, Dr. Ewurah Kandia Mahama, to have mercy on them and to also include qualified people from the community in the programme.
Another resident Mr. Abdul Majeed observed that the geographical location of the community had caused them to be excluded in the LEAP programme.
He said Gogi community is surrounded by communities in the Wa Municipality therefore making it difficult for them to receive any form of support from the Wa East District.
It could be recalled that recently the Gogi community had said it wants to be carved into the Wa Municipality to enable them to also benefit from government projects and interventions.
The elders of the community said they have been cut off from every government project, including provision of sources of potable water hence their quest to join the Wa Municipality.
