0ver 950 Children Receives Free Eye Screening in Djawie


Over 950 children at Djawie, a community in the Sissala West District have received free eye screening and treatment. Bliss Eye Care, a private eye specialist clinic in Wa offered the free eye screening and treatment to the children in partnership with the Sissala West District Education Directorate through Alhaji Amidu Sulemani, a former Upper West Regional Minister.

Out of the total number of beneficiaries, over 600 children including adults received medication while 19 of them received medication and eyeglasses. The initiative by the Bliss Eye Care was under the Blissful Sight for Kids project.

Speaking to Info Radio at the community after the exercise, Alhaji Sulemani, who had also served as a Member of Parliament for the Sissala West Constituency, expressed satisfaction about the exercise.

Alhaji Sulemani who has also served as a minister of roads under the John Mahama administration said, regular eye screening is essential for healthy eyes, and called on residents in the Upper West Region to regularly visit the hospital to have their eyes checked.

Some teachers who went through the screening exercise and were given eyeglasses thanked Bliss Eye Care and it's partners for the intervention.

Dr. Zakarea Al-hassan Balure, the founder and manager of Bliss Eye Care, stressed the need for parents and caregivers to see health facilities as their first point of call for the treatment of all eye conditions. He also appealed to parents to take serious interest in caring for the eyes of children since eyes have no spare parts
