The incumbent Member of Parliament for Lawra Constituency, Mr Bede A. Ziedeng, said the successful filing of his nomination is the beginning of his return to parliament in 2025.
The lawmaker for Lawra Constituency filed his nomination to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries to lead the party in the constituency in the 2024 general election.
Speaking to delegates after filing his nomination in the Lawra NDC Constituency office, he said he has no doubt of winning the primaries because of the trust delegates have for him in the 2019 and 2020 primaries and general elections respectively.
Mr Ziedeng indicated that he has not yet completed his promise to develop the constituency hence he urged delegates to give him another opportunity to go to parliament.
He thus outlined some of his developmental contributions in the constituency within his first term, in the followings sectors:
Water
He drilled seven handheld boreholes in the following communities Yagtuuri Vapuo, Zambo Hayion, Zambo Tangpuori JHS, Eremon Danko, Domwine Tansil, Eremon Naburnye and Eremon-Landing and four mechanized boreholes in Eremon Senior High School, Zambo Nawoyelle, Tuori and Brifoh Baapare.
The MP also rehabilitated and mechanized 2 water systems at Eremon and Dowmine Health Centres. The rehabilitation of the 2 mechanized water systems cost GHC24, 970.00.
So far, he repaired over 50 broken-down boreholes in the constituency and all are functioning.
Health
Mr Ziedeng donated 3 heavy-duty air-conditioners to the cold room of the Lawra Municipal Health Directorate for storing essential drugs and vaccines which cost GHC18,000.00.
He also repaired the Lawra Municipal Hospital’s X-ray machine at a cost of GHC18,000.00.
He supported the Boo Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) with 50 bags of cement and 10 packets of roofing sheets also valued at GHC20,000.00.
Education
Mr Ziedeng also supported over 220 students in part payment of their school fees amounting to GHC250,000.00.
In addition, 4 computers were donated to the Lawra Municipal Education Directorate and further distributed to the three senior high schools in the constituency, and that is Lawra Senior High School, Eremon Senior High School and Brifoh Senior High School.
Items worth GHC11,500.00 were donated to Brifoh Senior High School when the girls' dormitory was gutted by fire, 100 pieces of student mattresses valued at GHC18,000.00 were also donated to Lawra SHS girls' Dormitory ripped off by a violent rainstorm and others
Women and Youth Empowerment
He sponsored 55 youth in the constituency to undergo skills and entrepreneurial training and also, supported the establishment of the Brifoh Credit Union with GHC5,000.00.
Others
The MP indicated that he lobbied and got Lawra-Eremon-Hain road re-awarded on contract after it was terminated in 2018 and left abandoned. “It took the great skills of the MP to get the contract re-awarded in 2023”.
He also donated 30 pieces of wheelchairs to the people living with disability in the Lawra constituency and assisted the Lawra Area Rural bank with an amount of GHC10, 000.00 to shore up the bank’s capital holding.
The Lawra Constituency Election Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Nuokpiew Victor, after going through the MP documents wished him good luck in his contest.
