SheEffect Network donates food items to St. Don Bosco Special School

SheEffect Network, a group of eleven women from the Upper West Region, has donated assorted food items to St. Don Bosco Special School at Loho in the Upper West Region to support the feeding needs of children with special needs at the school.
The donation, made on Sunday, May 10, 2026, to mark this year’s Mother’s Day celebration, included bags of rice and maize, baskets of fish, a gallon of cooking oil, a box of tin tomatoes and toilet rolls valued at about GHS 4,500.
St. Don Bosco Special School provides special education and care for children living with conditions including autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.

Speaking on behalf of the network during a brief presentation ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of Mara Foods, Maria Johana Yuorpor, said the gesture formed part of the group’s commitment to putting smiles on the faces of some of the most vulnerable members of society.
She said the donation was not simply about giving food items, but also about showing “compassion, dignity, hope and reminding every child and caregiver that they are seen, valued and deeply loved.”
Madam Yuorpor noted that as mothers, sisters and daughters, members of the network were touched by the resilience and beauty of the children, saying their smiles “speak louder than words” and remind society that kindness can heal and unite communities.
“We understand that raising and supporting children with special needs comes with unique challenges, yet it also comes with extraordinary love and resilience. Through this small gesture, we want to stand beside the school, the children, and their caregivers to say: you are not alone,” she said.
She explained that the donation followed an earlier visit and similar support to the school, during which authorities made a passionate appeal for assistance, particularly in the area of feeding.
Observing that many of the children were barefooted, Madam Yuorpor also pledged to provide clothing and footwear for the students within the week.
She assured the school of the network’s continued support, saying the group remains committed to creating impact through empathy, generosity and community service.
“The SheEffect Network is committed to creating impact through empathy, generosity, and community support. We believe every child deserves care, acceptance, nourishment, and an opportunity to thrive regardless of their abilities,” she said.

Receiving the items on behalf of the school, the Headmistress of St. Don Bosco Special School, Veronica Dong, expressed gratitude to the group for what she described as a timely and compassionate intervention.
She said the school remains committed to nurturing children with special needs and welcomed continued partnerships and support to advance its mission.
The donation formed part of SheEffect Network’s broader efforts to promote inclusion, kindness and community support for vulnerable groups across the region.
