Residents Of Upper West Urged to Support Drug Addicts



The Upper West Regional Office of the Narcotic Control Commission has urged residents in the Upper West Region to support drug addicts to recover from their addiction.


According to the Commission, it has carried out a number of sensitization programs to enlighten residents on the need to support persons who desire to stop abusing and using drugs .


Speaking to Info Radio during the 2023 International Day against Drug Abuse and illicit drugs trafficking, the Upper West Media Engagement Officer of the Narcotic Control Commission Mr Stephen Kobom appealed to residents stop stigmatizing and discriminating against those who are addicted to drugs but show love to them.


Mr Dominic Naaikuu, also a Media Engagement Officer with the commission disclosed that more young people in the Upper West Region are taking to Shisha, a new but dangerous form of smoking and advised young people to desist from patronizing Shisha since its health implication is enormous .


The Commission also advised parents serve as role models to their children and also supervise the movements of their wards and the kind of friends they associate with.


The 2023 International Day against Drug Abuse and illicit drugs trafficking was commemorated under the theme “People first, stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention”.
