Residents of Jongfian Lament Inadequate Healthcare and Insufficient Social Services

Residents of Jongfian in the Duu Electoral Area of the Wa East District, are raising concerns over the lack of adequate healthcare facilities and social support systems in their area.

Speaking to Info Radio, the residents revealed that their community has no maternity ward, making it difficult for women to access antenatal care, delivery services, or postnatal support.

They said the absence of such critical facilities has put the lives of expectant mothers and infants at risk.

The residents further lamented that the situation extends beyond maternity care, as the entire community struggles to access proper medical services.

According to them, caring for the sick and injured has become a major challenge, with some cases reportedly resulting in fatalities due to the lack of healthcare infrastructure.

They are therefore calling on the district assembly and relevant stakeholders to intervene and provide the necessary support to improve healthcare delivery in Jongfian.

A resident, Agnes Kontuoku, also highlighted the lack of social welfare support in the community, saying that no one benefits from the government’s Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme.

“There is no LEAP support here for those in need. The poor are left to struggle on their own when they fall sick. We don’t get any help to manage our health or livelihoods,” she said.

Ms. Kontuoku appealed to the government and social welfare agencies to extend LEAP and other social intervention programs to Jongfian to help vulnerable families cope with health and economic challenges.

Residents say urgent intervention is needed to ensure better healthcare access and improved living conditions in the community.
