Parents called upon to take their girl children’s education seriously

Parents and guardians have been called upon to take the education of their girl children very seriously as girl child education is paramount.

Mr Muniru Abdul Na-eem, a Mental Health advocate and Peace First Sub-Saharan ambassador for Ghana, made the call during a Spelling Bee Championship organized for basic school children by Striving Muslims, a group of tertiary students, in Wa over the weekend.

He observed that most girls have their education terminated after Junior High and Senior High School levels due to a lack of encouragement or motivation from parents and guardians in the face of some life’s challenges.

The Ghana Youth Movement for Mental Health advocate also urged parents to educate their children about mental health and the need to normalize extending help to the mentally ill.

He encouraged them to be concerned about the mentally challenged and see them as worthy members of society and also to offer them psychological support through guidance and counselling.

Mr Naeem also advised the children to share their thoughts and worries with their parents so that they can have them addressed before they escalate to deranging levels.

Three girls emerged as top winners at the end of the competition, Mr Na-eem told Info Radio, saying it was intriguing and encouraging.

Little Anas Etoff Hina, a class two pupil of Dan-Ibu International, emerged as the overall winner while Madison Sherifa and Anas Abida became first and second runners-up respectively.

The children were grateful for their triumphs and urged their mates to learn hard while promising to return more robust in the next edition.

In the last edition of the championship, three female pupils emerged as winners and this time, too, all the top three winners are females.
