Nurses in Nyaayiri attend to patients under a tree

Current state of Nyaayiri clinic after a windstorm disaster

Residents of Nyaayiri in the Wa East district are unhappy about the current state of the community’s clinic.

Nurses in the community currently attend to patients under a tree due to a windstorm that ripped off parts of the roof of the health facility a few weeks ago.

The residents explained that the building is currently weak and not fit for purpose due to years of non-maintenance. Some of the residents speaking to Info Radio in the community expressed their dissatisfaction about the current state of the clinic. They mentioned that successive governments have failed to extend development to the community.

As the rains set in, nurses in the community clinic would have no choice than to refer patients to Kpaglaghi, a neighboring community to seek medical care if the clinic is not rehabilitated.

Nanbule Pascalina, In-Charge of the Nyaayiri clinic, says that healthcare in the community is retrogressing. According to her, they currently store their drugs and other essential items in one of the nurse’s living rooms due to the current state of the facility.

“As we sit here right now, we cannot offer quality healthcare. If anybody somebody is sick in this community, we have to take care of the person under a tree. Healthcare in this community is in a sorry state due to the current state of the clinic.

“If the situation persists for a long, we will have no choice but to refer patients to Kpaglaghi for medical attention,” she added.

She appealed to duty bearers to come to the aid of the community.
